Sharp Upper Bounds on the Minimum Number of Components of 2-factors in Claw-free Graphs

چکیده
Let G be a claw-free graph with order n and minimum degree δ. We improve results of Faudree et al. and Gould & Jacobson, and solve two open problems by proving the following two results. If δ = 4, then G has a 2-factor with at most (5n− 14)/18 components, unless G belongs to a finite class of exceptional graphs. If δ ≥ 5, then G has a 2-factor with at most (n− 3)/(δ − 1) components, unless G is a complete graph. These bounds are best possible in the sense that we cannot replace 5/18 by a smaller quotient and we cannot replace δ − 1 by δ, respectively. AMS classification: 05C70

Computing Sharp 2-Factors in Claw-Free Graphs
In a recently submitted paper we obtained an upper bound for the minimum number of components of a 2-factor in a claw-free graph. This bound is sharp in the sense that there exist infinitely many claw-free graphs for which the bound is tight. In this paper we extend these results by presenting a polynomial algorithm that constructs a 2-factor of a claw-free graph with minimum degree at least fo...
متن کاملUpper paired-domination in claw-free graphs
A set S of vertices in a graph G is a paired-dominating set of G if every vertex of G is adjacent to some vertex in S and if the subgraph induced by S contains a perfect matching. The maximum cardinality of a minimal paired-dominating set of G is the upper paired-domination number of G, denoted by pr(G). We establish bounds on pr(G) for connected claw-free graphs G in terms of the number n of v...
متن کاملBounds on total domination in claw-free cubic graphs
A set S of vertices in a graphG is a total dominating set, denoted by TDS, ofG if every vertex ofG is adjacent to some vertex in S (other than itself). The minimum cardinality of a TDS ofG is the total domination number ofG, denoted by t(G). IfG does not contain K1,3 as an induced subgraph, then G is said to be claw-free. It is shown in [D. Archdeacon, J. Ellis-Monaghan, D. Fischer, D. Froncek,...
متن کاملVertex disjoint cycles for star free graphs
A graph is claw-free if it does not contain K I ,3 as an induced subgraph. A graph is KI,r-free if it does not contain KI,r as an induced subgraph. In this paper, we find bounds on the minimum number of edges needed to ensure a KI,.,.-free contains k vertex disjoint cycles. The bound on claw-free graphs is sharp.
متن کاملThe leafage of a chordal graph
The leafage l(G) of a chordal graph G is the minimum number of leaves of a tree in which G has an intersection representation by subtrees. We obtain upper and lower bounds on l(G) and compute it on special classes. The maximum of l(G) on n-vertex graphs is n − lg n− 1 2 lg lg n+O(1). The proper leafage l(G) is the minimum number of leaves when no subtree may contain another; we obtain upper and...
